Bob the Tour Guide
8 1/2″ long x 5″ at the widest point
This was a fun challenge. I belonged to a “Not Your Ordinary Book Club (Pine Cone Press)” at Impressive Ideas in Roswell, GA. We met monthly. In September 08 the NORBC members received a Halloween themed packet containing 4 pieces of card stock, a black blank coffin to assemble and ribbon.
My talent lies in mixed media – no so much paper crafts. I couldn’t resist trying something different. In an effort to make my piece less morbid I created a polymer clay mummy (Bob) as a tour guide. His parts are polymer clay, painted with acrylics and wrapped with gauze to include thin flanges around the edges. Holes were cut in the lid of the coffin, the body parts were inserted from the inside of the lid (glued at the flanges) and secured in place by a facing piece of purple flocked card stock. The box was covered with decorative paper. Rubber stamps and other ephemera were used. The feet of the coffin are cloth covered buttons.
An album was made to fit inside the coffin (using the coffin as a pattern). The cover is mat board covered with decorative paper. The hinges are grommets and chain.
